Importance of Discussions with Friends

Exchange of Ideas
Forging closer friendships is what makes discussions with friends important. Loners are the only people who hardly have friends because they don't want to discuss with people. Atmospheres of discussion with willingness to share are what interest me when discussing with friends that make it important. Why? It is the exchange of ideas, experience and opinions that make one learn from healthy discussions. The truth is I take it to be a valuable learning system. It's like group discussions, right?
Sharing, Openness
When do I consider a discussion to be healthy and share worthy?
- Those that I am with are trusted friends, colleagues or associates.
- There are no more than 5 of us. This goes with the saying, too many cooks spoil the broth.
- No one in the group has a certain dislike for one or more.
What are the points I like in discussing with friends?
- Everyone is open to others thoughts, opinions and ideas.
- It helps us to cope up or be updated with things going on around.
- No fixed topics. The importance of this is it the discussion might get around to a topic that could solve a problem and relieve some stress or insecurities.
- The value of what is being discussed is highly considered because everybody shares common interests.
- The times discussions are like a consultation with "shrinks". They know you best compared to a shrink you have to pay. Friends are advisors that assure you they are there when you need them.
- Discussions hardly end up as arguments.
All Kinds of Friends
On some instances, it is difficult to determine a friend that could be trusted especially when they are new acquaintances. With me, I often rely on first impression and it has always worked for me. Not to totally discount discussions with new friends, it is healthy from one point of view. You get to know more about them, their way of thinking and outlook on life. The importance of knowing this is getting fresh and new ideas from amongst a new circle of friends. That happens often when one is new in a workplace. There are always learning values in a discussion when taking it from different points of view. In short, broadmindedness opens gateways on anything that is discussed with friends.
The importance that I see in discussing with "not-so-true" friends is finding out why they are such. Maybe find out what the reason why they are not that close to you. Maybe they felt that you have taken advantage of them in one way or another. Or probably other things or thoughts they have misunderstood you from their point of view. Personally, I have experienced this and many of them are now my closer friends. It showed me that differences are not actually differences but a matter of good discussion that brought about better relationships. I guess it is my age of 5.4 decades that makes me see the light in the importance of discussing with friends.
